  • Julie Turpin

    Chief Executive Officer

    Julie Turpin joined The Advocator Group in August 2012 from GCG Risk Management Consultants, where she was a Principal and Head of Operations. Prior to GCG, she was the Senior Vice President and Head of Operations in the Midwest Zone for Marsh USA. Julie brings over 14 years experience in executive roles with legal, energy, and insurance brokerage companies with US-based and global operations to her new role.

    Throughout her career, Julie has led organizations to achieve process improvements, productivity gains, and higher output. With Julie’s ability to build high performance teams and to motivate employees to provide superior customer service, The Advocator Group continues to be dedicated to successfully helping individuals apply for and obtain Social Security Disability Insurance.

  • Mike Shunney

    President and Chief Operating Officer

    Mike joined the Advocator Group in 2014, after several months of working with the company as a strategic leadership consultant through his advisory firm Shunney and Associates, LLC. Mike brings with him over 20 years of experience as a senior executive with Sun Life Financial, including roles as P&L leader of their Employee Benefits Group and Presi­dent of U.S. Distribution. His expertise includes business strategy, particularly knowledge in distribution & sales, profit building, mergers & acquisitions, and organizational development. He is known for recognizing and rewarding talent and instilling strong competitive drive in team members to achieve organizational success.

    Mike graduated from Merrimack College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Finance. He currently serves on advisory boards at Mobile Health Consumer (corporate health management technology) and Assist America (global emergency travel assistance provider), and on the Board of Directors for the Doug Flutie Jr. Autism Foundation.

  • Nelson Acosta

    Vice President, Information Technology

    Nelson Acosta joined The Advocator Group in January 2011 from Agero, where he served as Team Manager and Principal Lead during several strategic IT implementation initiatives. As the Director of Technology, Nelson is responsible for technology development and information technology and infrastructure. During his time at the Advocator Group, his commitment to innovation has supported key business growth and operational optimization. Nelson graduated from Universidad Simon Bolivar in 2001, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering with concentrations in database design, operating systems, and software engineering.

    Nelson earned his Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from Boston University in 2004, receiving the Distinction for Academic Excellence award upon graduation. His graduate work with the Information Security Lab enabled Boston University to be named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Joanne Ward

    Manager, Intake & Aevo Sales/Services

    Joanne joined The Advocator Group in June of 2018 as the Inside Sales Manager for the Intake team. She brings over 30 years of experience in sales/sales management in the financial services, employee benefits, life insurance, and variable annuities industries to the organization. As manager of Intake & Aevo Sales/Services, Joanne is responsible for leveraging leadership skills, industry knowledge, and sales experience to develop talent that provides a positive and seamless experience to new clients. She drives her teams to deliver results while emphasizing execution to add value on every client interaction through education and quality service. Joanne is a passionate supporter of the Special Olympics, along with her daughter Ashley—who has won numerous Special Olympics medals for bowling and swimming.
  • Adam Roy

    Program Manager & Licensed Medicare Specialist

    Adam has been with The Advocator Group since 2006 and has served in a diverse variety of roles giving him a comprehensive knowledge of the Social Security and Medicare processes.   In his role as Program Manager & Licensed Medicare Specialist in the Medicare department, Adam is responsible for the oversight of key areas of improvement, data trending, and marketing techniques for business development along with conducting client evaluation and enrollment in Medicare health plans.

    Adam has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Gordon College and is a Resident Producer in Massachusetts for Life and Health Insurance with AHIP certification to offer Medicare products.  Additionally, he holds Non-Resident licenses to offer Medicare products nationally.

  • Jeanne Caldwell

    Licensed Medicare Insurance Specialist

    Jeanne joined Aevo Services in 2018, bringing seven years of Medicare experience and expertise with her. She has her Massachusetts Resident License for Life and Health Insurance with AHIP certification to offer Medicare products. Jeanne also holds Non-Resident licenses to offer Medicare products in a variety of states. She takes great pride in delivering a positive client experience, and enjoys working alongside her fellow Aevo teammates to achieve this goal with each individual they assist.

    Outside of work, Jeanne loves spending time with her grandsons, Max and Steven. She also enjoys reading, watching reality television shows, and travelling; she particularly enjoys visiting national parks, ranking Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon as two of her favorite destinations.

  • Linda Larocque

    Licensed Medicare Insurance Specialist

    Linda has held an insurance license for thirty years and has worked in many facets of the insurance industry, helping individuals with life insurance, disability insurance, 401K planning, pension maximization, and annuity investments. Several years ago, Linda had the opportunity to work on a pilot program enrolling individuals who were on Medicare and Medicaid into state funded health care. She saw firsthand how overwhelming Medicare enrollment can be and realized that she wanted to help make the transition onto Medicare easier and smoother.

    Linda has been married for ten years and has a Cairn Terrier named Sophia Marie Joy. She likes to stay active and particularly enjoys hiking and yoga. When she isn’t exercising or spending time with her family, Linda enjoys watching tennis—she attends the US Open in New York City nearly every year and has even gone to Wimbledon!

  • Chris Rondeau

    Lead Generation Specialist

    Chris joined The Advocator Group in 2006 as a member of the benefit coordination team after working for five years with Aetna Insurance as a long term disability examiner and overpayment specialist. He is a hard working team player with strong time management and communication skills, and he brings over 12 years of both short and long term disability claim experience into his role as the Lead Generation Specialist with Aevo Insurance Services. Chris is tasked with screening clients to verify their Medicare eligibility and with ensuring that Aevo Insurance Services is a strong match for their unique health care and financial needs.

    He is currently working to obtain his Life, Accident, and Health Insurance License. Chris enjoys spending time with his wife, Laura, and their two children.
